Finally, it’s time for relaxing with the end of the year party. This year we also congratulate to Ontana Yodnarong for receiving N-BMR award this year.

On December 7, A/Prof. Alison Ung from School of Mathematical and Physical Science, University of Technology Sydney kindly visited Nanibiotechnology & Nanobiomaterials Research laboratory (N-BMR). We also wish Chanthar having all the best for his next journey.

On November 22, Dr. Dakrong Pissuwan receiving a great chance as an invited speaker to give a talk entitled “The forthcoming applications of gold nanoparticles in diagnostics and therapeutics at Thailand-Japan joint symposium in TSB2018 conference and be a poster award committee team.

On November 20, our N-BMR laboratory received a kind visit from Associate Professor Cuong Ton-That, School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, UTS, Australia. Students of N-BMR laboratory had a short gun talk on their research to A/Prof. Cuong.

On November 17, Miss Sunisa Chaicherd and Dr. Dakrong Pissuwan attended the academic meeting entitled “Two faces of Chemicals” at Chulabhorn Research Institute. This meeting was organized by Center of Excellent of Environmental Health and Toxicology.

On November 15, high schools students from Mahidol Vitayanusorn visited our N-BMR laboratory. We hope that students enjoyed gaining knowledge about nanoparticles from our laboratory.

As well, this month 2 members (Ms. Porntida Wattanakul and Ms. Sunia Chaicherd) from N-BMR laboratory attended a graduation ceremony for their Master Degree completion. We congratulate to both of them. They also have continued their PhD study in Materials Science and Engineering Program and Toxicology Program by doing research at N-BMR laboratory.

Dr. Pissuwan was awarded as a visiting fellow under the funding support of Australia-APEC Women in Research Fellowship at School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, University of Technology Sydney during September 3 – October 31, 2018.

Finally, congratulations to Pornthida for passing her PhD thesis proposal examination. We also thanks Assistant Professor Jutarat Kitsongsermthon from Chulalongkorn University and Assistant Professor Witchuda Sangsawang for being committees of this examination on August 30, 2018.

Dr. Pissuwan gave a lecture entitled Emerging Gold Nanoparticles in Biology and Medicine for BIO100 students at King’s Mongkut University of Technology Thonburi on August 28, 2018.

On August 23-24, 2018, our N-BMR-laboratory gave a poster presentation in ESPReL meeting. We thank Coshem Mahidol University for their support.

Prof. Takuro Niidome from Kumamoto University was in Bangkok . A nice discussion on some collaboration was done during dinner on August 19, 2018.

Dr. Pissuwan received a good chance to be a committee of the STEM project on August 18 at Chulabhorn Graduate Institute (CGI). A PhD student, Ms. Porntida Wattanakull, also joined this event to gain STEM knowledge.

On August 8, we congratulated to Boom for passing her thesis proposal examination. We also thanked Assoc. Prof. Worapot Suntornsuk and Assoc. Prof. Atitaya Siripinyanond for being committees of this examination.

In the afternoon, a new coming generation of undergraduate students in Materials Science and Nano Engineering Program visited N-BMR laboratory. We also took them to visit Nano Imaging Center at Faculty of Science, Mahidol University.

First of all, congratulations to Sasiprapa Poomrattanangoon for being awarded for Royal Golden Jubilee PhD scholarship. She has started working on doing research in the area of using nanomaterials for tissue engineering.

This month Dr. Pissuwan gave an oral presentation entitled “Biological responses to encapsulating layers and cellular activities in a co-culture system of T cells encapsulated with PSS-coated gold nanorods” in Gold Conference 2018, Paris, France.

As well, N-BMR members joined a fire prevention practice. We thanked the staff who takes care on the safety issue and gave us a good opportunity to join this useful activity.

Finally, both undergraduate and graduate students gave a talk on their research during summer break.

Quite a few things happened to our N-BMR Laboratory this month. First of all, we would like to say good bye to Issaraporn. She did quite well on doing research at N-BMR Lab during her Co-operative Education Period. We thank for her contribution with us.

We also thank for a kind visit of Associate Professor Pornpan Pungpo (Head of Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, UBU). Thanks a lot for consider N-BMR laboratory to be a place for on a Co-operative Education Project.

Another good news is that Dr. Pissuwan has been selected to receive Australia-APEC Women in Research Fellowship 2018. Finally, it is time for celebration for many great things happened in May !!!

On April 27 (the second safety day of Mahidol University), our laboratory received a trophy from the Acting President of Mahidol University. This trophy indicates that Nanobiotechnology & Nanobiomaterials laboratory could achieve ESPReL standard. We also congratulated to other 14 laboratories from Mahidol University that achieved this standard too. We thank to COSHEM committees for their guidance on the safety of the laboratory. We also thank Mr. Sumet Kittipoom and Mr. Phairat Sirikiatdamrong for their supports. Finally, our laboratory could pass the ESPReL standard because of a great teamwork from N-BMR members.

During Thai New Year period, the traditional Thai activity was organized by N-BMR young members.

On March 29, Dr. Kihoko Tokue and her colleague from Leave a Nest, Japan kindly visited us. We thanked for a useful book that they provided to us.

Ms. Sasima (Boom) was a representative of N-BMR team to give a pitch in “Promoting I with I” event on March 6 at Pullman Bangkok Hotel G. Boom did a great talk to introduce S2-soap (a soap bar containing gold nanoparticles). As well, all N-BMR members especially graduate students put a lot of effort to support this pitching. Boom also had the same pith on Venture Day (March 22) organised by Faculty of Science, MU.

Dr. Pissuwan joined STEM workshop entitled “Nanoparticles and Environment” for high school teachers on March 4. Dr. Sujin Jiracheewanun from KMUTT (STEM Mentor) and students from N-BMR lab. including a visiting scholar student also contributed in this STEM workshop. The workshop was organised by Center of Excellence on Environmental Health and Toxicology (EHT), Chulabhorn Graduate Institute. At the end of the workshop, the distribution of a brochure of Thai & International Undergraduate Programs of Faculty of Science, Mahidol University was also done. This might lead more chance to introduce all programs to high school students.

On Feb 16, we thank the safety committees from COCHEM for kindly visiting N-BMR laboratory and providing a lot of useful suggestions to improve a safe working environment in the laboratory.

This month on Feb 14, Sunisa had a thesis defense. All N-BMR members congratulated her on passing a thesis defense. We also thank thesis committee members (Dr. Numpon Insin from Chulalongkorn University and Dr. Achirapa Bandhaya).

This month, Dr. Pissuwan was invited to be International Advisory Committee of ICGSCE-2018

  • We welcome a young visiting researcher; Ms. Issaraporn Saenglam (Nim) from Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, UBU. She will be with our N-BMR group for 10 weeks.

    On Jan 26, Sowmiya gave a presentation on her work that she has done with N-BMR group. She has gained new research experience and has completed her research internship under the MOU contact between Mahidol University and K.S. Rangasamy College of Technology. We wish her the best for completing her undergraduate program Nano Science and Technology at her college in India.

    N-BMR members organized a welcome trip for Sowmiya (undergraduate student from India) on Jan 20, 2018.

    Dr. Pissuwan gave a talk entitled “Cellular activity of human T-cells encapsulated with polyelectrolytes and gold nanorods and their function on cancer destruction” in TRF-OHEC Annual Congress 2018 on Jan 11, 2018.

    The first news of the year starts with welcoming 3 Indian students who will join an activity at Faculty of Science (under the MOU with Materials Science and Nano Engineering Program) for a month. Two members (Sasima & Chanthar) from N-BMR group kindly took care these Indian students at the airport on Jan 3, 2018.

    One student Sowmiya will be at N-BMR team. Sowmiya is the third year undergraduate student from K.S. Rangasamy College of Technology, India. She is a student at B. Tech (Nano Science and Technology). Our N-BMR members are very pleased to have Sowmiya with us.
